something like that

Number of early Velázquez paintings combine still life and genre unresolved manner, showing servants handling aliments and kitchenware as if not quite know or opposite as if used them in extraordinary ways like jugglers or magicians.

Velázquez Water Carrier of Seville solved problem of combine things and people by subordinating mobility of model to immobility of thing. Glass filled up to brim naturally brings caution and stillness to person holding. Water carrier no juggler handles precious crystal of cool water with caution.

Both hands as in embrace when receiving even lightweight gift. Swift use of it violation of its inherent uselessness. Imagine person receiving shining award with good grip putting it to immediate use at ceremony for fixing loose shoe sole. Bundle of juniper slivers elegantly strapped together in belt of birch bark. Perfect campsite gift make inflammable little nest for igniting fire for cooking never be put to use, never meant to, reflecting thoughtfulness of donor.

Nexus and Origo acknowledge physicality alike but for difference: former tends towards appearance/apparition while latter towards weight. Velázquez Emmaus scene relegated to picture in picture while Caravaggio counterpart suggests physical presence.

Although Zurbarán sitting still on shelf or Sanchéz Cotán hanging from string, object has something of apparition about it because single, like baloon even when many of them in the air. Caravaggio still life on other hand tends towards excess loading ignoring pile of precious junk presided over.

How does Sanchéz Cotán Nexus still life relate to Kalf Affinitas still life? Former obviously arranged latter disarranged with utmost care.

How close to real thing? Still liferaises question what thing in picture is, as evídenced by all those painters aspiring to fool eye with flowers and fruits. Asking what a thing-in-a-picture is, not same as ask what a picture is. Origo linear perspective claims to know what a picture is but provides nothing but bare stage for things to appear on. What they are nobody knows.

Still life painting for practicing art of making things appear in picture space. Musician practicing scales kind of still life music for establishing musical space as act of preparation.

Affinitas still life rooted in illumination. Jan van Eyck translated clarity of words into connection of matter and light. Those glowing pieces of fruit on shelf at window are illuminated things. Had it not been the case then neglectable but are certainly not just like spouses themselves illuminated things. Or better other way round: those pieces of fruit are married couple or triple.

Representation, is of something elsewhere whereas illumination is an acknowledgment of something already there either hidden or neglected until spotted as such.

Zurbarán still life, is it illumination or representation? Neither but display of picture things. Suppose original arrangement had not been dismantled could still compare it to painting. What would we learn? Nothing. Not matter of comparing things sitting around and picture things. Latter always matter of apparition.
